Happenings at School for the Past Week...

This week was so fun! Of course, we had the once a year teachers’ day celebration and I was sure my teachers enjoyed it! I could see the joy in their faces when they received the gifts from you and me. They wanted to say a big thank you to you too! It sure felt nice to see all our teachers so happy.

This week, Ms. Angela read us 2 stories. One of which is called “The lion and the mouse” and the other, “Seven blind mice”. -

“The lion and the mouse” was a story of well, a lion and the mouse! One day, while lion was asleep, the little mouse ran over the lion and woke him up! Of course, the lion was very angry and wanted to eat the mouse up. But the mouse was very sorry and offered to help the lion if he was ever in trouble. Of course, the lion laughed at the little mouse and said that the mouse was too small to help him. With that, he let the little mouse go. One day, the lion was trapped and caught in the ropes! All the animals saw and left him. And guess who came to help? It was the little mouse! The little mouse actually bit the rope and made a huge hole so that the lion could run away! The mouse did save the lion after all and they became the best of friends.
“Seven blind mice” was a story of seven mice that couldn’t see. And yes, they were very colourful! One day, they found out that something had landed near their place and they didn’t know what it was. Day by day, each of the mice took turn to have a feel of what that something was. They went to the legs which felt like pillar, the nose that felt like snake and even the tail that felt like a rope! On day seven, the 7th mouse went all over that something and said that it’s an elephant! The other mice didn’t believe and went to have a look as well. And, yes! It was definitely an elephant. This book had very interesting illustrations and Vivian was pretty good at guessing what that something was!

We also learnt about the pre-phonic sound of letter “m” where monkeys are munching.

For math, we did threading of buttons and also a revision of shapes! We were really getting a hang on it but of course we needed more revision. You could do it together with me too. Amanda wass pretty good with her shapes.

For craft this week, we did a lantern each but we could not bring the lanterns home. Ms. Angela said that we were going to send the lanterns for competition. It was not about the prize but we definitely enjoyed it! I heard that it was going to be hung at Chinatown point. Maybe we could have a look when mid autumn festival is near?

And of course, we also had a performance on Friday in lieu of teachers’ day celebration. We wore our special aeroplane on and flew around the stage! Remember the surprise blue box that we painted last week? It was actually the aeroplane! Ms. Angela allowed us to bring the box back so that we could perform it for you. Do sing it with me so I could put on a great show for you!

That’s all for this week and I definitely am looking forward for a more exciting week to come!

Had suddenly decided to bring Giselle for a proper hair trim today as her fringe is poking into her eyes. All the while, I am the "hair stylist" for her by trimming her fringe at my house corridor staircase.

Brought her to Yoong at Oasis De Salon at Blk 18 Jalan Memina @ about 10.45am. Prempted Giselle that I am going to bring her for a haircut and she said "yes". She was quite cooperative throughout though she has bit of fear initially. I told Yoong that I just want a trim as I would like her to have long hair. I kept distracting her with things and she was ok. When came the hairdryer part... she got scared again.

Overall, the experience was better than I expected as she was willing to sit down without any struggling :)

Giselle really threw me a lot of surprises there few days. Just yesterday nite, she was singing and singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ in Mandarin to me and Adrian on our bed. It’s really the full version of it. Just that her hanyu pinyin not so perfect yet but still very well done lor. Adrian and me clapped and cheered for her and recorded it down on our handphones. She was so proud of herself and kept smiling shyly…

Then just this morning, she opened her own story book and really describe the things that she saw in the book. Like “It is raining, got thunder, lightning”. Then as she flipped another page she saw ants and said “Many ants, scared scared” (referring to herself). Really amazing as just a few days ago I was telling her teachers during the PTM that I am worried that her mandarin knowledge is not good and she has no patience to listen to stories. Her teacher told me what’s more important is that she can describe the pictures to me.

Parents-Teachers Meeting @ Delcare

Today is the annual PTM at Delcare and we had the chance to have a proper meeting with Giselle's Chinese & English teachers to discuss about her development.
When Giselle saw us seated down with Ms Angela and Wang Lao Shi, she began to be very uncomfortable and was very frightened. She thought we are discussing on how naughty she is in class. When began to cry after a while and Wang Lao Shi quickly went to assure her that it is ok. I told Giselle that Ms Angela is telling us how good she is in class.

Basically a development scoresheet was done by Ms Angela and generally she considered above average in most of the development goals. Ms Angela told us that Giselle is cleverer than any other students in the class but of course, this is also one of the cause that she can be very cheeky in class. Besides this, her teacher told us that her logical thinking excellent and this is seen from the speed of doing puzzles correctly.

Overall, Giselle is less naughty than she is previously. Her teacher has tried to use another type of method to guide and this makes Giselle more receptable to Ms Angela's instruction.

Just today I am telling Wang Lao Shi that I am worried about her Mandarin, Giselle proved me wrong tonite when she recited No.1-10 in Mandarin :)

Her new Piggy Bank

Bought her a Piggy Bank from IMM today as I want to cultivate her savings habit. Me and Adrian gave her a dollar coin each telling her that the $ is to save up for buying books.

Thereafter, she has been asking me to give her $ and tell me: "Save money buy book". Guess she is really very enthusiatic about her piggy bank as a start. Even when she sleeps, she also wanted to hold on to her piggy bank as though it is going to be stolen. haha

A Trip to the Singapore Science Centre...

Had gotten the DBS Science Centre Pass and decided to bring Giselle for a tour there. We set off from home around 10.15am and it was drizzling when we reached the centre at about 10.45am. 1st thing that made her shout for excitement is the MacDonald fast food.

My timid gal actually got scared as she tour around the centre… either she was frightened by the big screen in a small theatre of something which looked weird. However, she loved watching the robot twist and turn.

We left the centre and headed to Hearts Café at Omnimax Theatre. The place served wonderful Asian food and yet very reasonably-priced. Had wanted to watch a show at Omnimax Theatre but changed our mind as we thought we will be wasting our money with her around. She will either but screaming in the theatre and asking us to get out.

We went to IMM as her daddy want to install some rain guard. Hence me and Giselle did some shopping alone. She only slept for 30mins at IMM and refused to nap further for the rest of the day.

Fun Day @ Go-Go Bambini

Had join Carlyn, Sheris, Daryl & Keith at this fun adventure cafe at Dempsey Road. It was a very tiring adventure for parents as one of us has to followed her around. She had fun but was a little timid when she saw older kids coming along her way. She loved the slide and cannot stop coming down from there. This is a real popular place for family with kids.

National Day Celebration @ Labrador Park

The kids' outing spirit were raised high when the National Anthem song was sung in the school just before they leave for Labrador Park.

The teachers have to pack and bring a lot of barangs barangs for this outing and each kids has a national flag tattooed on their face... Giselle was getting excited and kept saying that she wanted to go to the park. Along the way, bus passed by her favourite cable cars and she shouted "Peker car" excitedly.

She has been a good girl and walk most of the time there. She and her classmates played with sands with all the sand toys that they brought. Walked around the park and finally settled down for lunch when they had fried noodles and garlic bread. Giselle has 2 full bowls, some garlic bread and some apples. Her appetite was real good.

Those N2 and K2 kids performed some interesting national day songs with actions. Giselle and I just sat in front of them enjoyed the performance which were very well done.

On the way back to school, most of her classmates have fallen asleep in the bus. Giselle was so tired that she nearly fell asleep just before reaching her school. I brought her back to school and left while the teachers were preparing them for their bath
